Hi, I am Devesh!

I am persuing M.S.(by Research) in the department of Computer Science and Enginnering at IIT Delhi. I work in Prof. Chetan’s Computer Vision group. My research area is Document and Scene text recognition. Currently, I am part of the technical teams of MAVI (Mobility Assistant for Visually Impaired) and Tika Vaani.

In MAVI, we are developing a wearable device for visually impaired people that can detect and recognize objects such as dogs, cows, potholes, and faces as well as read Scene Text in Hindi and English Languages. Currently, I’m working on Transformer based models for text recognition on scene image captured using wearable cameras.

In Tika Vaani, we are woking on digitization of the Mother and Child protection cards (MCP) . In india, vaccination information of children is recorded manually on the paper based MCP cards. Not only are these cards easily lost, their paper-based nature makes the data compiling process extremely inefficient. Tika Vaani’s goal is to develop a mobile application that allows for the instant digitization of these cards by simply clicking a picture of the card. I’m developing deep neural network models that can read handwritten data on these cards in challenging conditions such as curved pages, extreme illumination, perspective distortion, and so on.

  • Nov 2022: Presented our paper in India HCI’22 conference at BITS Pilani Hyderabad.
  • Aug 2022: Selected as an Outstanding Teaching Assistant for Semester-II, 2021-22 for the course COL226 (Programming Languages).
  • June 2022: Presented Smartforms in ACM COMPASS (online) held in University of Washington, Seattle, USA. Our work was also covered by Microsoft- AI for Humanitarian Action projects
  • Jan. 2022: Selected as an Outstanding Teaching Assistant for Semester-I, 2021-22 for the course COL703 (Logic for Computer Science).
  • Dec. 2021: Paper Accepted in ACM COMPASS conference
  • Jan. 2021: Joined MS(Research) program in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, IIT Delhi.
  • Sep. 2020: Joined Mtech CSE Program in IIT Ropar.
  • Aug. 2020: Completed B.Tech. CSE from G.B.P.I.E.T. Pauri Garhwal, Uttarakhand
